Yucky bug!

We survived the week! This is quite a blessing as it has been a very difficult week in our household.

On Monday night, Caleb threw up twice in his crib during the night. During the day he occasionally spits up a VERY small amount, but this was "change the crib sheets" messy. By Tuesday morning it was obvious he had caught some kind of virus. He threw up after every feeding and we were having some diaper issues. I called the doctor and we decided to bring him in. I knew there wouldn't be anything he could take for a virus, but it made me feel better to take just to be on the safe side. I must add, I love his doctors office! We called and had an appointment in a little over an hour and waited at most 5 minutes in the waiting room. So, the doctor confirmed that it was a virus and all I could do was love on him and wash my hands a lot. We got home and he threw up a few more times, but for the most part he was still his happy self. By Tuesday evening he had stopped spitting up and everything was fine again. I'm so thankful that his first time being sick was short lived and that he was generally ok besides the spitting up!

Wednesday started off like a normal day. I was still watching his diapers to make sure he hadn't become dehydrated from the day before, but Caleb and I had a regular day. Around 3 in the afternoon, however, I realized I was getting nauseous. I didn't want to call Jonathan because I knew he had a lot going on at work, but (and I know it was a God thing) he decided to come home early "just because" that day. You must understand, Jonathan very rarely comes home early. His work group is more flexible in the morning, but typically stays later in the evening. This is how I know God was involved, there was no other reason for Jonathan to be home early. I slowly got to feeling worse during the evening and right after Caleb went to bed (another God thing) got sick. Unfortunately, when it came time for Caleb's nightly feeding I was not able to feed him, so Jonathan had to give him a bottle. These days bottles do not go very well. He did fine with them until he became aware of his surroundings and really throws fits now. So Jonathan helped me until somewhere around 11 or 12 and then tried giving Caleb a bottle. The night is a blur to me but I know Caleb eventually got a few ounces from his bottle and I finally stopped being sick around 2 or 3 in the morning.

The next few days are all jumbled. I didn't throw up any more but it took until Sunday evening for me to eat anything resembling a normal meal. Jonathan was wonderful! I couldn't ask for someone better to take care of me and Caleb. I think he was ready to go back to work this morning though. I guess 4 straight days of me being under the weather and Caleb needing lots of attention is pretty exhausting.

On this rainy, gloomy Monday Caleb and I plan to stay home and keep getting Mommy's energy back. I'm thankful that Jonathan could be home with us Thursday and Friday and that I know when I'm not around Caleb is taken care of, if only we could get the bottle thing going well again!

I hope it's a long time til we have a bug in our house again!

Valentine's Weekend

Happy Valentines Day! (yesterday) We had a wonderful weekend! On Friday we went to Jessica's house for dinner. It was nice to catch up with her and to see how Caleb would do around her pets (especially her dog). It was his first experience with a little dog and he didn't seem to be bothered at all! We stayed for a little while after dinner, but then made our way home to put him to bed and watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics! I have always loved watching the opening ceremony so I was really excited about it! I even dressed up Caleb in USA colors earlier in the day just so I could take his picture! He's so cute!

We spent Saturday morning and afternoon enjoying our time with Caleb and doing a few things around the house. Around 5:00 my parents came over to babysit while we had a Valentine's date. It's so nice that they are close by and enjoy being with Caleb! I always worry about how Caleb will do with a babysitter and he has been doing just fine lately. I do hope to work on getting him to take a bottle again. He's really been fighting it the past few times we've offered it.

We didn't do much for Valentine's Day itself, but did keep busy with church and bible study. I did take the time to take a picture of him in his V-day outfit! Again - so cute!

Jonathan had today off so he let me get out of the house for a little while and took care of Caleb. He's such a good Daddy! He goes back to work tomorrow, but it was nice getting a three day weekend with him. Below are some pictures we've taken recently that I just had to share!

Enjoy & have a great week!

Play time!

Cute sleeping pose!

Our cats do exist though I rarely talk about them anymore! Here they are being cute in front of the fireplace!

The Nursery

My baby went to the church nursery on Sunday for the first time! He does great with us during church, but the last few times he has been distracting to people around us, so we decided it was time. Luckily, I volunteer in peewees, so I know the people in charge and have complete faith in the caregivers. When I handed him to the person behind the counter my heart fluttered a little. He's really only stayed with family so far and I didn't know how he would do with a stranger. I don't know why I was worried! He did so well. I watched through the glass for a few minutes after I left and he was just fine with the woman he was with. I tried really hard to focus on the sermon during church, but I have to admit I kept thinking "Let's get done so I can go get him!" I think God understands in those situations though! When I got to the desk to pick him up he was waking up from a nap in the swing. Our friend Jessica volunteers for that service so I was able to ask her how he did and she said he was great! He played for a little while and then got tired so he took a little nap! He was just waking up when I got there. I was so concerned that he would be fussy when he didn't recognize any faces. I know every Sunday won't be that perfect, but it's nice that I didn't come back to him crying.

Besides our new Sunday morning experience, Caleb had his first Super Bowl this weekend. I think he enjoyed the first 3 quarters, but decided to sleep in the 4th! He also had his first walk in the stroller without using the carseat. He sat facing forward in the regular seat! He looked like such a big boy and was much happier! I think he liked looking out at the world around him instead of staring up at me! I guess he sees me all the time!

4 months old!

Our baby turned 4 months old yesterday! I know I say this every month, but where has the time gone?!? Every time I turn around he changes or learns something new. Here are some facts!

Weight: 12lbs (2nd percentile)

Height: 24 3/4 inches (29th percentile)

Favorite toy: Crinkle Lion (he "talks" to lion in a different voice than he talks to us)

Play time: splits time between the quilt on the floor and his exersaucer

Laughs: when we make funny noises (and then gets the hiccups), when excited he screeches

Milestones this month: rolls from tummy to back or back to tummy (not a full roll yet), started playing in his exersaucer, sits in the bumbo while Mommy and Daddy eat (most of the time), looks for us when we leave his field of vision, falls asleep on his own in his crib

I can't imagine what the next month will hold, but I love watching this little boy grow every day!
