Caleb's teachers at PeeWee School have been teaching him to kick a ball (something I never would have though to try at this age) and he's really getting good at it! So far we've noticed that he only kicks with his right foot and sometimes he misses and makes a circle to come back and try again!
Jonathan got two videos of him kicking the ball... the first shows what he can really do and the second is what begins to happen when a little boy gets tired : )

Jonathan's Birthday Weekend
My sweet husband turned 26 on Saturday which meant we spent the weekend in celebration mode! Unfortunately, he was still a bit weak from a stomach bug he had earlier in the week, so we tried to balance some rest in between all of the events.
We slept in and relaxed on Saturday morning before heading over to Kemah for a fish fry at GG and Papa's house. The weather was just beautiful, so we stayed out on the porch the whole afternoon and enjoyed the breeze coming off the bay. As usual, we had way too much food (fish, hush puppies, onion rings, french fries, bread, salad, cole slaw and cake), but we had such a nice time with our families.
Around the table - check out all that food!
Derrill playing with the kiddos.
Hanging out on the porch overlooking the water. SO relaxing!
Caleb helped Daddy open his presents!
Derrill hanging out with Lana.
We left around 3 so Caleb could get home for a nap. Later in the afternoon/early evening Drew and Laura stopped by to visit. They had intended to join us in Kemah, but got into town a little after we left. We had a nice time catching up with them and watching Caleb be silly, I don't think he was still the entire time they were here!
On Sunday, we went to church in the morning and right as we got home we had a phone call for something special I'll tell you all about later! We were expecting the call, but not that early, so Jonathan left as soon as we walked in the door to go take care of that while I got the house ready for a Pampered Chef party. My sister-in-law just became a Pampered Chef consultant, so I offered to host a party. I had a great time with everyone that came and enjoyed learning a few recipes. While that was going on, Jonathan and Caleb went to my parents house to hang out with Pops. It sounds like they had a great time together - I wonder if any pictures were taken?
As soon as everything was cleaned up from the party, I rode with Laura and Drew to meet Jonathan's family over at Texas Roadhouse to continue the birthday celebration for Sunday dinner. It was fun watching Caleb and Lana together for the second day in a row, they seem to like each other. We passed the "babies" around the table while everyone finished eating and had a good time catching up with Jonathan's dad and Dao.
The "babies" sat together - I guess they really aren't babies anymore!

Caleb with Grandpa and Dao
We both practically collapsed after we put Caleb to bed last night, but we had a great time celebrating and enjoying family during the weekend. After being so busy for several weeks now, I think my body has just given up... I woke up with a nasty cold this morning. Yuck! Jonathan is entertaining Caleb so that I can rest up and hopefully get over most of the yucky stuff today. It's unfortunate timing as a cool front moved through last night and it's absolutely beautiful outside today (high in the low 80s). Fall is definitely in the air today! I'm hoping to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather this week with Caleb. Fall is my favorite time of year with cinnamon, pumpkins, rich colors and that cool, crisp air. Not to mention, my fall present - my sweet baby boy!
I hope Jonathan enjoyed his birthday weekend as much as I did! Thank you Lord for such a wonderful man to celebrate!

Happy Birthday Jonathan!
Happy Birthday to my wonderful husband!
I thank God every day for such a kind, wonderful man. I am so thankful that you are my husband, my best friend and Caleb's daddy. I can't imagine spending my life with anyone else.
I love watching you play with Caleb, he loves you so much. You do things with him that I never think of and teach him new things all the time.
Thanks for loving us both! We hope you had a wonderful day and your year is full of many blessings!
XOXO
One of my favorite pictures of you and Caleb while we were still in the hospital.

Caleb vs. the Cats
We've had a war raging between Caleb and the cats here in the Lutz household for the past few months. Really, it's been since Caleb became mobile. For some reason, they got along a lot better when Caleb just laid in one spot and couldn't go after them!
For the most part they co-exist fairly amicably. It's just occasional moments when the cats have decided to nap on the floor that we have little battles. If I could just get the cats to stay upstairs or sleep on the furniture we would have fewer incidents.
Well, regardless of the incidents, Caleb loves his furry friends! He has decided to love on them no matter what. I took this video today, but this is not an isolated situation! I'd say Orion battles with "hugs" at least once a day. Tiger is better about running away, I don't think he likes the attention as much.
I love the insane giggling that usually accompanies the "hugs", he just loves his kitty friends so much!

Lots Going On
Well, now that Jonathan's back from the NASA field test, we've been super busy here in the Lutz household! Last week we had something going on every day after Jonathan got home. Wednesday I had a morning meeting; Thursday I had a class in the morning, PeeWee School and coffee with some friends; Friday I set up for a baby shower and Saturday I threw a baby shower with a few lovely ladies. Sunday was church, of course, and yesterday we painted a room upstairs. Wow, when I type it all out it's no wonder it was hard to wake up for PeeWee School today! While we have been busy, we've also had some great time just the three of us to relax and spend time together. Caleb is so glad to have his daddy back and I'm grateful that I'm not a single parent or a wife to a husband gone for months at a time! We're so thankful for Jonathan!
Besides all that craziness, we've been watching Caleb really take off with walking! As of today he can now stand up without anything to hold onto, turn around while standing so that he can walk the opposite way, and play with toys while walking. He's walked the distance of our living room without falling, but when he does fall he's now capable of standing right up and going on his way! I'm amazed that he's only been walking for a week and 5 days, but has already improved so much.
He also babbles non-stop now days. Of course, he gets quiet as soon as the camera turns on, but most of the day is spent listening to him talk. Wish I knew what he was trying to tell me!
Below is a video we took today to show off how much better he is at walking than the last post. Seriously - exactly a week difference and he's so much more sturdy! Amazing!

Walking
Our baby boy is now a toddler!
Caleb took his first steps the day before he turned 11 months and has been getting more stable ever since. It's been hard to catch any walking on video, but we finally got a few short videos today. With Jonathan now home from his 2 week field test for work, it's been easier to catch him on camera, I hope we'll get more clips over the next few days/weeks to show how much stronger he's getting. He's already more stable than this video and it was taken this morning : )
Amazing how walking makes him suddenly look even older! We're so proud of our little boy!

Goin' to the Farm
Well, I guess I should say "went to the farm" as we are already back!
My parents announced that they were going to visit my grandparents (Granny & Grandpa) this weekend and I thought this would be a great chance for us to go visit as well. We even road up with them to save on gas and have a chance to nap on the way!
We went up Friday morning and came back this afternoon so it was a short trip, but a nice change of pace. The weather was AMAZING for the last two days, so we spent a good portion of our time outside on the patio. (When I say amazing, I mean cool breeze and high around 80!) I think Caleb even got a bit darker on his legs.
Yesterday (Friday) evening, we watched Caleb go down the hall toward my grandparents' bedroom and when we would call his name he would giggle and crawl faster to get all the way there! Grandpa even joined in the fun and chased him down the hallway. We didn't get any of it on video, but I'm sure it's a memory that will always stay with me. It's funny to watch his not so little personality become stronger...he started that game on his own and managed to rope all of the adults into it! My silly little man!
It was a nice visit with my grandparents and fun to spend some extended time with my parents, but I'm glad to be home and have Caleb in his own room again.
On another note - Caleb is now 11 months old! Here are a few facts about him now...
- He prefers to feed himself. Chicken nuggets and carrot risotto puffins are his favorite
- He has now taken about 6 steps on his own (not all together, but a few at a time) but doesn't seem quite ready to go on his own yet.
- He would spend all day outside if possible.
- His newest "thing" is throwing food on the ground that he doesn't want and only eating what he wants off of his tray (Totally not ok with me, but we're working on it)
As always, I can't believe how quickly the time is going by. He'll be walking before we we know it and turning 1...how is that possible??? For now though, I'm going to enjoy him just as he is, there isn't a thing I would want to change anyhow!
